The Texas Rural Fence crew on a job site

Texas Rural Fence, Inc. is a fence and gate company based in Onalaska, Texas. We have been building and repairing fences around Lake Livingston since 2005: wood, metal and farm and ranch fence, driveway and walk gates, and the decks, pergolas and outdoor work that go with them. We are an S corporation, locally owned and operated, not a franchise and not a regional outfit that sends a crew from Houston. The people who come out to look at your property are the people who build the fence.

What we build

Our core work is fence and gate construction and repair. That means wood fences in every residential style, metal fences from chain link to ornamental steel, and farm and ranch fencing from barbed wire to corrals to game fence. It means gates of every kind, with openers where wanted. And because the same skills apply, it means decks, pergolas, pressure washing, staining, gutter cleaning and skirting. A large share of our farm and ranch work is repairing or extending fence that other people built, and we are glad to have it.

Insured, and honest about licensing

We are insured for the work we do and will show proof before work starts. Texas does not license fence contractors, so we do not claim a license. If a fence company tells you it is "licensed," ask by whom.

How we work

  • Every project starts with a free on-site estimate. We walk the line with you and send a written price for the actual property. No per-foot guess over the phone.
  • We build for this ground. Posts set below the soft soil and in concrete, corners braced, rot boards on wood fences, coated hardware for the humidity. The unglamorous details are the ones that decide whether a fence is standing in ten years.
  • Repairs get the same standard as new work. A reset post goes in at full depth; a rehung gate gets a brace.
  • We tell you when something is not worth doing. If a repair will not hold, or a style will not suit the lot, we say so and price what will.

Real work, not stock photography

Every photo of a fence, a gate, a deck or a crew on this site is from one of our own jobs around Lake Livingston. The cartoon longhorn and his dog are our mascots; everything else is real. We would rather show you a fence we built last year than a picture of one somebody built in another state.

Where we work: Onalaska, Livingston, Coldspring, Point Blank and Shepherd are home ground, with Huntsville, Trinity, Corrigan and Goodrich served regularly and the rest of Polk and San Jacinto County case by case. See the full service area.

Why "Texas Rural Fence"

Because that is what we build and where we build it. Lake Livingston country is pasture, timber, lake lots and small towns, and the fences out here have to hold cattle, keep a dog home, frame a lake house and survive a storm, often on the same property. We named the company for the work and put a longhorn on the shirt. Texas pride says a little more about that, and made in the USA, built in Texas covers how we think about materials.

Frequently asked questions

Who actually builds the fence?

Our own crew. We do not sell the job and hand it to a subcontractor. The people who look at your property are the people who set the posts.

Are you licensed?

Texas does not issue a state license for fence contractors, so no fence company in Texas holds one, whatever their website says. We are insured, and we will show proof of insurance before work starts.

Where are you located?

On FM 356 in Onalaska, Texas, on the west side of Lake Livingston. Most of our work is within a short drive of the shop, across Polk and San Jacinto County.
