Happy Mother's Day From Texas Rural Fence

Happy Mother's Day to the moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, foster moms and everyone who has stepped into that role for the people around them. It is an easy job to take for granted and a hard one to do well, day after day, and we wanted to say thank you before getting back to the usual fence talk.

A day to slow down, if you can manage it

Around the lake that might be a family lunch, a quiet morning on the porch, or an afternoon with nowhere in particular to be. Whatever it looks like this year, we hope the moms in your life get a day that is more about being taken care of than doing the taking care of.

If the yard comes up

Not everyone wants to talk fencing on Mother's Day, and this is not a sales pitch. But if a mom in your life has mentioned wanting a nicer garden, more privacy on the patio, or somewhere shaded to sit outside, these are the projects that come up this time of year:

• A garden fence that keeps the deer and rabbits out of the vegetable beds.
• A pergola over the patio for afternoon shade.
• A privacy screen on the one side of the porch where the neighbor's window is.
• A deck with somewhere comfortable to actually sit.
• A picket fence out front, because some people have wanted one since they were ten.

None of it has to happen this weekend. It is just worth knowing the options if the subject comes up.
